H6 Flashcards
what roof does the wall studs have to be shorter in order for the facia heigh and overhang dimensions to be equal?
The Major Roof wall
if the wall heights are kept the same and the facias line up, what must be done to the minor roof projection?
he minor roof projection must be narrower
what happens it the projection and wall heights don’t change?
the facia heights are different.
what 3 slopes does an intersecting unequal sloped roof have?
Major Common slope, Minor Common slope, Valley slope
how does the designer set the roof slope and height of ridge?
with the major common rafter slope
will the minor roof slope be shallow or steeper?
steeper
to layout a minor rafter, what side for the framing square would you use to lay out the total rise?
the body (or blade)
what slope will the valley have?
the most shallow of the three
Span on an unequal roof includes what?
the projection and facia
what must be done when working above 25 feet?
a written fall protection plan must be made
Building Code Span tables use what lengths to calculate the lengths of rafters?
horizontal lengths from ridge to plate but do not include the projections.
what is the primary planning tool for unequal slope roofs?
a developed drawing showing full size rafters and intersections
what are the first lines drawn on a developed drawing?
the centre lines
what dimensions are measured from the developed drawing?
shortenings and side cuts of rafters
what dimension does all three rafters use in the calculation?
total rise above facia
what is the code minimum for the width of the seat cut?
1 1/2 inch
what is the calculation for Difference in Major Jacks?
Spacing X M:m X MSR = DMJ
what is the calculation for Difference in Minor Jacks?
Spacing / M:m X mSR = DmJ
what Line length per unit of run do you use for sheathing cuts on unequal slope?
the common Line Length per unit run (LLPUR-C)
what side of the square do you cut on?
the tongue side
for face/miter cuts what is used not the tongue?
The Unit Run of the opposite roof that you are on
for Edge/Bevel cuts what is used on the tongue?
Rise of the roof that you are on
what is slope?
run to rise
what is pitch?
span to rise
If the facias are at the same height and the projections are the same what must be done to allow this?
the minor wall must be taller than the major wall
if the wall heights stay the same and the facias are the same height what needs to happen?
the minor roof projection gets smaller
If the projections and the wall heights stay the same what must be done?
the major roof facia will be higher than the minor roof
In the span tables of the building code what is usually missed with unequal slope roofs?
the span tables go from support to support and unequal sloped roofs go from outside of facia. so to get the correct span the projections on both sides must be subtracted from the total span.
What jack rafter is cut on less than 45 degrees
Minor Jacks
What Jack rafter is cut on more than a 45 degree?
Major Jacks
