How is H. pylori able to survive in the stomach?
A
- Secretes urease which produces ammonia.
- Ammonia neutralises the acidic environment.
- Bacteria able to colonise gastric epithelium in the mucous layer.

A
- Serum IgG levels
- Carbon-13 urea breath test
- Gastric endoscopy and biopsy

- Gastritis
- Peptic ulcer disease

How do you treat H. pylori infection?
A
Triple therapy.
- PPI ➡️ Omeprazole
- Two antibiotics ➡️ Clarythromycin and Amoxicillin
- H2 antagonist if severe
