What are possible gynae presenting complaints?
Menstrual Problems: Menorrhagia / IMB / PCB / PMB / amenorrhoea
Pain
Dysmenorrhoea / pelvic pain / dyspareunia
Urinary / Pelvic floor problems: Prolapse / incontinence / frequency etc
Vaginal Discharge / Pelvic Mass / Infertility etc
What things do you need to ask someone about in a gynae history?
History of presenting complaint (eg. SOCRATES, amount of blood, duration of problem etc)
Age
Menstrual cycle and symptoms: LMP Cycle: duration of menses (period) and cycle (general cycle) regular/irregular heavy/clots/flooding/protection
Associated symptoms: duration/problems
Impact of all of this: social, work, relationships
contraceptive history: sexual active, current contraception, previous contraceptions
Smear history: date of last smear, result
previous smear history (abnormal results, treatment etc.)
Other gynae problems
Vaginal discharge: nature/colour/smell/periodicity/partner
Dyspareunia: superficial/deep
Urinary symptoms:
frequency/ nocturia/ urgency/ dysuria
incontinence/ urge/stress
haematuria
Past obstetric history: Parity live / stillborn sex / weight / gestation mode of delivery Complications (ante / post natal)
PMH/past gynae and surgical history
drugs and allergies
systems review
FHx: cancer (ovarian/breast)
