Manifestations (Guillain Barre Syndrome)
Symmetrical Motor Weakness (Distal to Medial)
Parethesia & Pain (worse @ night)
Hypotonia/ Arreflexia
SIADH (Fluid Retention)
Hx component of Dx (Guillain Barre Syndrome)
Prior respiratory/ GI Infection (30% Camplyobacter Jejuni)
CSF (Guillain Barre Syndrome)
Protein normal to low initially, increases 7-10d
EMG/ Nerve Conduction
Slows Transmission
Tx (Guillain Barre Syndrome)
Plamaphoresis Immunoglobulin (Renal Function Important)
NI’s (Guillain Barre Syndrome)
Ventilate before it becomes an emergency
suctioning, chest pain, intubation
1 cause of mortality in pt with (Guillain Barre Syndrome)
respiratory failure
Prognosis (Guillain Barre Syndrome)
Ventilator support for 2 weeks (typically)
ICU 2-3 months
Most pts survive, Extensive Rehab to recover (up to 2 yrs)
