guidance - Flashcards
1
Q
what are the four types of guidance?
A
- Verbal
- Visual
- Physical
- Mechanical
2
Q
what is verbal guidance?
A
the process of which a teacher tells a performer what to do and how to perform a skill
3
Q
what is visual guidance?
A
the process by which a teacher shows a performer how to do a skill, either through physical demonstration or video
4
Q
what is physical guidance?
A
the process by which a teacher physically moves the performer to help perform a skill
5
Q
what is mechanical guidance?
A
the process by which a performer will use equipment in order to aid with the execution of a skill
6
Q
benefits of verbal
A
- it can be in the form of feedback, which can be used to reinforce good movement and to identify errors
- it can hold the attention of the performer if used appropriately
7
Q
negatives of verbal
A
- it can lead to an information overload, making it more complicated
- the guidance given could be inaccurate if not communicated correctly
8
Q
positives of visual -
A
- the performer can find it easy to create a mental picture of what is required
- it can enable the skill to be seen in different stages to make it easier to learn or develop
it encourages observational learning by drawing attention to important cues
9
Q
negatives of visual -
A
- the demonstration could be incorrect and therefore the performer could learn bad habits, which could hinder skill development
- the coach may not be able to show an accurate demonstration
- the visual representation may be unclear or the skill production too quick for the performer to follow effectively
10
Q
benefits of physical and mechanical -
A
- it can give the performer a greater sense of safety and help with their confidence
- it can give the performer a greater kinesthetic feel of the movement, strengthening the S-R bond
- it can be used to isolate an important aspect of the skill to practice as a separate sub-routine
