Q

what is intrinsic and extrinsic feedback

A

intrinsic is from within the performer and it is their own personal feedback on their performance, whereas extrinsic comes from ann external person such as a coach, telling you how you have performed

Q

positives of intrinsic -

A
  • the feedback occurs as the movement is performed and is, therefore, readily available and movements can often be corrected or altered immediately
  • if the performer is in the autonomous stage, then the feedback is likely to be accurate, and due to the experience of the performer, it can be interpreted correctly and lead to improvement

Q

negatives of intrinsic -

A
  • may not lead to accurate interpretation
  • can be biased based on the performer
some performers are able to interoperate movement and performance easier than others
  • some performers may interpret intrinsic feedback incorrectly and therefore performance may deteriorate `

Q

positives of extrinsic feedback -

A
  • the coach can give coaching points that may lead to improvements as long as the information is accurate

Q

negatives of extrinsic feedback

A
  • inaccurate feedback can affect performance negatively and result in negative transfer
  • if the source of feedback is unreliable and the performers motivation can also drop
this feedback does not promote much kinaesthetic feedback

Q

positves of positve feedback -

A
  • can lead to positive reinforcement and therefore enable the correct S-R bond to be formed.
  • this type of feedback can be extremely motivating, especially for cognitive-stage learners
  • can help to build self-confidence and self-esteem

Q

negatives of positive feedback -

A
  • if undeserved- the performer may be building inappropriate S-R bonds and therefore performance may deteriorate
  • too much praise may also be ignored and performance can deteriorate

Q

positives of negative feedback -

A
  • can help motivate a performer to do better
  • may result in a more determined performer
  • performer will be clear with what needs improvement
    more suited to autonomous performerrs

Q

negatives of negative feedback -

A
  • some performers may deem this to be de-motivating
  • some performers cannot cope with negative feedback and may only see it as a criticism, causing them to become more demotivated
  • if the feedback is unfounded or inaccurate, it can be detrimental to the performance of the athlete.

Q

what is knowledge of performance?

A
  • feedback about the pattern of movement that has taken, or is taking place. it is normally associated with external feedback but can be gained through kinaesthetic feel
