Guest Lecture Angus Flashcards
What is the essence of the dilemmas Angus mentioned?
Need and timing for development?
* Is a new port needed?
* Intergenerational development project: infra like this is not built often
* Implication of political cycles
Angus mentioned something about the political cycle. How does this relate to infra planning?
the 4 year political term has a big influence on ideas. 2 major parties usually rule for 2-4 terms then it changes. This has influences on planning processes, since infra planning takes a long time. Also, leadership changes can change and alter plans.
What kind of function would fit at the location of the old harbour?
Housing, other forms of companies maybe. Depends on waterblocking functies of the sea and also other instrusive functions like companies near the area. If there is a big distance between intrusive functions and the location, a residential area would be fitting. WIth nice views over the sea along the coast line.
Explain the controlled loss paradigm.
Loss of nature is easily accepted. EIA practice is not fundamentally altered to accomplish nature positive paradigms.
What is the difference between process trade-offs and substantive trade-offs?
process trade-offs are about how choices are made while substantive trade-offs are about positives and negatives for potential outcomes.
Explain the tradeoffs between environmental/social and economic elements.
Tresholds of negative impacts: in the dark coloured areas: unacceptable. If it falls within the lighter areas, adverse impact is acceptable. Then it should somehow be compensated or restored. Nature for example. Or social capacity/ jobs
