guardia 2012 evaluation Flashcards
1
Q
Guardia Generalisability
A
+ : had a large sample of 50 ppts which is easily generalisable as more representative
- : only used female ppts in acute episodes of anorexia, so this is not accurate of the general population such as men others that have less serious cases of anorexia
2
Q
Guardia Reliability
A
+ : highly standardised, used body shape questionnaire, standardised when taking shoulder lengths and everyone saw the same openings 4 times
- :
3
Q
Guardia Ecological validity
A
- : the test was in lab conditions which could influence them to answer differently than they would in real life.
4
Q
Guardia Mundane Realism
A
- : the tasks are very artificial and not something that would usually be asked in the real world so this would mean the results would not be representative of what they would say or do in real life
5
Q
guardia Validity
A
- : demand characteristics could play a part in results, as the experiments are wanting to see what they think about themselves they may over or under compensate for their condition and may say the results they think the experiments want
6
Q
guardia social desirability
A
- : questionnaires used (body shape questionnaire) they may have lied to make themselves look like they are doing better than they actually are.
7
Q
Guardia Ethics
A
- : may be unethical to ask healthy and AN people to rate themselves, have themselves measures and ask them if they can fit through openings as this could make them feel worse about themselves as they are already self conscious, leading to worsening of the disorder.
+ : all AN ppts were being treated foe AN so this means they would have the help they needed if they did have any problems after the experiment.
