lymphedema - we are removing lymph nodes, pressure dressings and exercises to prevent it, keep arms at breast level or elevated
very dramatic lots of fluid and impossible to get rid of
hematoma/seroma formation- never want to hear that there is pressure in the area
infection
post op breast cancer hand and arm care
potential for lymphedema formation
no blood pressure, injection, or blood draws from the affected arm
perform arm exercises (arm raises, hand crawls, rope turning) 3x a day for 20 minutes pain meds given prior
prevent lifting over 10 pounds
post op breast cancer drain management
will go home with drains and need to know how to change them safely
removed when less than 30 mL drainage in a 24 hour period usually 7-10 days
drain site and incision care
