19
Q

changes in renal status- diagnostic testing

A

BUN/creatinine
Specific Gravity 1.010-1.025
Serum Creatinine 0.6- 1.2 mg/dl
BUN 7-18 mg/dl, age > 60 8-20 mg/dl
GFR–> checks how well the blood is filtering in the kidneys
gfr may be lower in elderly patients
CT scan of kidneys
ultrasound
renal angiogram
prostate rectal sonogram
UA and culture
renal function test
intravenous urography
retrograde pyelography
cystography
renal angiography
endoscopic procedures

20
Q

hematuria nursing interventions

A

notify provider if onset is out of nowhere
monitor I&Os and document
insert urinary catheter
encourage bladder training
consult with urology
monitor hgb/hct
Diagnostic testing
Monitor related symptoms
Abx for underlying infection
Pt education
Probably treat precipitating factors, relieve anxiety

21
Q

3 way bladder irrigation

A

sterile procedure
allows fluid to flow in and out of the bladder simultaneously to prevent or manage blood clots and consequent urinary retention
Urine should be a little pinkish first day, should NOT look cranberry color. If clots are there, they should be small enough to pass
Irrigating bladder wall, VERY vascular so minimize bleeding
1 port for inflation of the balloon
one for urine drainage
one for connection or continuous irrigation of fluid
