A
- Conduct with parent involvement and understanding
- Always do “quiet” parts first allowing child to sit with parent if possible
- Conduct age-appropriate well child exam with specific attention to achievement of developmental milestones of all ages and findings specific to the newborn period
- Plot data on growth charts
- Recognize common normal variants

Newborn: PE Findings
A
- Communication: cries, quiet, tongue motions
- Gross motor: head control with slight lag
- Fine motor: hands to mouth, fingers closed
- Problem solving: alerts to objects
- Personal/Social: Quiets to a caregiver’s touch

2-4mo: PE Findings
A
- Communications: Laughs, coos, turns head to voice, quiets in response to voice
- Gross motor: starts to roll over half-way and then completely stomach to back first, head steady when placed in sitting
- Fine motor: hand to midline, batting at objects, holds object in place with hand
- Problem solving: Watches mobile, uses whole body to observe (does not watch dropped object)
- Personal/Social: Begins to show preferences for caregiver

A
- Communication: chuckles, high-pitched squeals
- Gross motor: moves head from side-to-side; holds head up 3in for 15sec; begins to roll
- Fine motor: holds hands open; grabs clothes; reaches
- Problem solving: follows; bats at objects
- Personal/Social: Plays with fingers; recognizes bottle; smiles at image in mirror; helps hold bottle

A
- Communication: Grunts; says “da,” “ga,” “ba”; copies sounds
- Gross motor: lifts legs high to face; rolls both ways; sits with leaning; starts crawling position
- Fine motor: grabs toy and waves it; rakes objects; picks up small toy between hands; reaches with both hands
- Problem solving: looks for things out of sight; transfers toys between hands; bangs toy on the floor
- Personal/Social: Tries to get a toy out of reach; starts to act differently towards strangers

- Communication: repeats sounds; plays peek-a-boo; says da-da
- Gross motor: pulls to standing; bends down while holding on; cruises
- Fine motor: pincer grasp; sets down a small toy without dropping it
- Problem solving: plays clap hands;pokes at object in a bottle; picks up two small toys in each hand
- Personal/Social: puts feet in mouth; gives you toy when asked; pushes arm in a sleeve

- Gross motor: starts to take steps or walks; sits on own well
- Fine motor: throws a toy with forward arm motion; turns pages of a book

- Personal/Social: lifts foot for shoe; plays catch; hugs a doll

- Personal/Social: offers a toy to image in mirror; goes to parent for help

- Communication: points correctly to pictures in a book when asked; can say 2-3 word sentences
- Gross motor: walks well with seldom falling; walks down stairs; kicks ball
- Fine motor: feeds self with spoon without spilling; turns pages in book by self
- Problem solving: copies a line; scribbles back and forth
- Personal/Social: copies sweeping, combing hair, cleaning up a spill

A
- Communication: names a picture in book; can carry out directions
- Gross motor: walks down stairs with hand holding; walks up stairs on own; runs
- Fine motor: unscrews lids off of jars; opens doorknobs
- problem solving: will copy gestures like opening mouth, lines up objects in a row
- Personal/Social: pretends to take care of a baby doll; uses a fork; peak of temper tantrums

A
- Communication: carries out commands, points at body parts; uses “I”, “mine”
- Gross motor: jumps with both feet off of the ground; kicks ball well with only 1 leg motion
- Fine motor: flips light switches on and off; puts shoelace in eyelet of shoe
- Problem solving: pretends objects are for something else; places utensils in correct direction
- Personal/Social: pushes a shopping cart; steers wagon around objects, out of corners

- Communication: Continues to add to vocabulary in 2-3 word sentences; correctly identifies objects by pointing
- Gross Motor: continues to run well; walk up and down stairs; kick a ball; jumps
- Fine motor: Stacks seven small objects
- Problem solving: Continues drawing lines; pretends objects are something else
- Social: calls self by “I”

A
- Communication: without help, child can respond to simple commands; 4-word sentences
- Gross motor: jumps forward 3in with both feet; runs; kicks; climbs; etc.
- Fine motor: draws a line; twists tops; flips lights
- Problem solving: puts things where they belong; knows self in mirror; identifies figures with missing parts
- Social: Puts on coat, jacket, shirt; pretends to take care of a baby
