difficulty producing speech sounds and speech sound sequences
fluency disorders
various disorders that involve what is commonly called “stuttering”
voice disorders
disorders reflected in speech that is hoarse, harsh, too loud, too high-pitched, or too low-pitched
Phonation Disorder
Any kind of abnormality in the vibration of the vocal fold.
Resonance Disorder
describes abnormalities created when sound passes through the vocal tract (hyper-nasal sounds)
language disorders
impairments in one’s ability to understand language or to express ideas in one’s native language
Central Auditory Processing Disorder
Deficits in the processing of information from audible signals. Difficulty processing sound not hearing sound
Apraxia
impaired ability to carry out motor activities despite intact motor function
Deaf
a severe hearing impairment; cannot hear speech even with the strongest amplification

visual impairment
An impairment in vision that even with correction adversely affects an individuals educational performance
Speech Impairment
a condition in which the ability to produce speech sounds that are necessary to communicate with others is impaired. Speech impairments can be mild, such as occasionally mispronouncing a couple of words, to severe, such as not being able to produce speech sounds at all.
