A

Acute

  • strangulated inguinal hernia
  • strangulated femoral hernia

Chronic

  • inguinal lymphadenopathy
  • muscle strain especially adductors
  • referred pain from hip OA

How to differentiate between indirect and direct hernia?

A

Age
- 50: direct

Ring occlusion test
- direct hernia will still protrude on coughing after reduction

Differentiating inguinal and femoral hernias?

A

Inguinal emerges above the inguinal ligament.

Femoral starts below the ligament rarely grows large enough to cross it.
