A
Acute
- strangulated inguinal hernia
- strangulated femoral hernia
Chronic
- inguinal lymphadenopathy
- muscle strain especially adductors
- referred pain from hip OA

How to differentiate between indirect and direct hernia?
A
Age
- 50: direct
Ring occlusion test
- direct hernia will still protrude on coughing after reduction

Differentiating inguinal and femoral hernias?
A
Inguinal emerges above the inguinal ligament.
Femoral starts below the ligament rarely grows large enough to cross it.
