gregor mendel Flashcards
1
Q
what are mendels 3 laws?
A
- law of segregation
- law of independent assortment
- law of dominance
2
Q
what is the law of segregation?
A
- during the formation of gametes chromosome pairs are separated
- parent alleles separate and one allele from each parent passes to their offspring
3
Q
what is the law of independent assortment?
A
- alleles on a pair of chromosomes are allocated to gametes randomly
- inheritance of one characteristic will have no effect on the inheritance of another
- different pairs of alleles are passed to offspring independently
4
Q
what is the law of dominance?
A
- some alleles are dominant to others
- dominant alleles are expressed over recessive alleles as the phenotype depends on the dominant alleles
