What is Hellenism?
Hellenism was the culture of ancient Greece
Who were the cynics?
The cynics were a group that had showed no interest in GOD. They had also utilitsed the Socratic method of asking questions, as well as engaging in diatribe.
Who were the Epicureans?
Epicureans were a group that believed GOD had nothing to do with human existence but instead the movement of atoms. They also believed that death was final and there was no resurrection after it.
Who were the Stoics?
The stoics are a group that regarded the universe as a single organism that is energised by the logos which guides all things. They believe that they should live according to this logos (divine reason)
What was Emperor worship?
In Ancient Palestine a majority of the public had believed in the emperor being a deity and they worshiped him as a god due to his high status.
Who were the Gnostics?
The gnostics were a group that believed in this idea of human souls not belonging in the material world, but instead in a spiritual heavenly realm. The only way to be saved was to recieve the revelation that that is where they belong. They, therefore, strongly encouraged people to opt out of this material world.
