- Large patches of silver/gray, matted down turf grass that coalesce

Disease Cycle:
A
Sclerotia survive in thatch….when conditions are favorable, they germinate into mycelium and form basidia and basidiospores. The basidiospores spread rapidly and form more sclerotia.

Signs:
A
- White to gray Mycelium is often present
- Has clamps on mycelium
- Red, spherical sclerotia are on blighted leaves.

Predisposing Conditions / epidemiology:
A
- Cold 35°-Warm 50°F Optimum temperature= 35°F
- Extended leaf wetness
- Thatch buildup
- Historical trouble spots
- Excess levels of N going into dormancy

Management Tactics:
A
- Keep snow off
- Keep turf dry
- Maintain a balanced fertility program
– soil test and adjust levels of nutrients as necessary - Maintain adequate N inputs in season
– 3 to- 5 lb. per 1000
– avoid excess N going into dormancy
