Gravity & Force Flashcards
Gravitational field
The region of space in which an object will experience a force due to gravity.
Elestrostatic force
The force between 2 objects caused by a buildup of negative charges.
Weight
A measure of gravitational pull on an object (N).
Examples of contact forces
- Normal force
- Friction
- Air resistance
Examples of Non contact forces
- Gravity
- Magnetic force
- Electrostatic force
Sedimentation
The process of removing solid particles heavier than water by gravity force
Movement
Living things can move on their own.
Magnetic separation
the process of using magnets to separate particular objects with magnetic properties
Emulsion, give an example
A colloid of 2 or more liquids one is a base, the other is broken into tiny droplets spread throughout.
eg. milk & butter
Why do things weigh less on the moon?
because gravity is weaker on the moon and the force is weaker, therefore making things weigh less.
Force
A force is a push or pull action upon an object.
How are forces shown in the force diagram?
as arrows that show the direction in which the force is acting.
Mass
mass is how many particles (atoms) make up an object. it is measured in kg
Gravity
It is the force that pulls objects towards the centre of the earth
Net force
The combination of all forces acting on an object.
