Granulopoiesis Flashcards
Dark blue cytoplasm with no visible granules. 2 or more distinct nucleoli. Not normally seen in peripheral blood.
Myeloblast
Primary or azurophilic granules (reddish purple) are present which are rich in Peroxidase.
Promyelocyte or Progranulocyte
Last stage to undergo mitosis but secondary granules (pink tan color) start to appear.
Myelocyte
Begins to lose cytoplasmic RNA. 16-24um in size. 10-20% in BM.
Myelocyte
Location of secondary granules: Lysozyme, protein, and acid hydrolase.
Golgi region of cell - “Pink Arc”
Abundance of pinkish purple secondary granules. RNA in this stage is lost with a kidney shaped nucleus.
Metamyelocyte or Juvenile cell
Nucleus is U or S shaped and the last stage before mature cell.
Stab cell or Band cell or Staff cell
9-10 days lifespan. Increased in bacterial infection. Primary function is for phagocytosis.
Mature neutrophils or Segmenters
Squeezing in between junctions.
Diapedesis
Migration of substance to foreign substance.
Chemotaxis
Pools found in peripheral blood.
Marginal pool and Circulating pool
Pools found in the Bone marrow.
Mitotic pool, and Maturation and storage pool
Cells stay in this pool approx. 2-3 days undergoing 4-5 cell divisions. It contains Myeloblast, promyelocyte, and myelocyte.
Mitotic pool
Cells spend 5-7 days no longer undergoing cell divisions. Progressive maturation. Contains Metamyelocyte, Bands and Neutrophils.
Maturation and Storage pool
Functions as 2nd line of defense. Has a folded over appearance.
