Erythropoiesis Flashcards
Size of the Rubriblast cell.
14-20um
Cytoplasm is deeply basophilc. Nucleus is relatively large, round or slightly oval.
Rubriblast or Pronormoblast or Proerythroblast
Has a size of 12-17um and the hemoglobin synthesis starts.
Prorubricyte or Basophilic normoblast
Cytoplasm is intensely basophilic. Nucleus is relatively large, round or slightly oval, nucleoli are not usually visible. NC ratio of 6:1.
Prorubricyte or Basophilic normoblast
10-15 um, blue-gray to pink gray, with large range in color due to start of hemoglobin production, round nucleus. NC ratio of 4:1.
Rubricyte or Polychromatophilic normoblast
7-12 um,pinker because of increased hgb production. Nucleus is small, pyknotic nucleus (partially extruded from cell). NC ratio of 1:2 and the last to contain nucleus.
Metarubricyte or Orthochromic normoblast or Acidophilic normoblast
7-10 um, pink to slight pinkish gray, with fine basophilic reticulum of RNA. Stains only with supravital stains (NMB, BCB).
Retics or Reticulocyte or Polychromatophilic erythrocyte
6.2-8.2 um, pink in color and last stage of erythropoiesis.
Mature erythrocyte or RBC
NC ratio of Rubriblast/Pronormoblast
8:1 with 1-2nucleoli
Start of hemoglobin production and last to undergo mitosis. Polychromasia is evident.
