Grants Flashcards
What are the five sections of a grant proposal?
(Specific Aims) Significance Approach Innovation Investigators Environment
What is the overall impact score?
Likelihood of sustainable and powerful influence on your field of research.
How well is it done combined with the significance.
What does specific aims consist of?
Not part of proposal.
Research strategy summary and has significance, innovation, and approach
5 main points:
Brief P describing problem and how to solve. Summary of why approach will solve. Description of approach. Actual aims and hypotheses. Long-term impact.
What does significance section consist of?
2-3 pages or 1-1.5
Examine and frame existing empirical research relevant to study and show how the research will advance the field.
Does study address important problem that fill gap and advances the field?
What does innovation section consist of?
Does the study employ novel methods? Highlight primary innovations (4-5) No more than 1 page Most influential for impact score .5 or 1 page
What does approach section consist of?
Largest section and most critical.. 8-9 pages. Is design, methods, and analyses well-developed? Research plan, methods, and analysis Use aims to organize. Give timeline.
4 parts: Overview of research design Study site and population Eligibility Research design and methods
Phase I - program development
Phase II - program implementation
Phase III - Program evaluation
What does investigator section consist of?
Is the investigators appropriately trained and well-suited to carry out research?
What does environment section consist of?
Does environment contribute to success of the study?
How are grants scored?
Each section is rated on scale of 1-9 with lower being better. Overall application given a single score.
