grant Flashcards
strength of research method
a strength of using a lab experiment is that the results are easy to replicate. this is because of the standardisation of the procedure and the high control of variables. all ps were given headphones to wear whilst they read the artical - some ps heard loud background noise whilst others heard nothing
weakness of research method
*
strength of data collected
a strength of quantitative data is it is easy to summarise and compare. this is because this data is limited to statistical data in which can be numerically measured - the researcher will be able to easily compare the results from the multiple choice test between the ps in the silent condition and the ps in the noisy condition
weakness of data collected
*
ethical considerations
is ethical through the ethical guideline of debrief. all ps were made aware of what the investigation consisted of and the purpose behind it - to prove that environmental context has a positive effect on the performance in memory ; in both matched and mismatched conditions
validity
high ecological validity. this is because of how similar the tasks were to the ones that can happen in real life context. the ps in the study were told to treat the artical given to them as an assignment, highlighting and underlying anything they found important. all ps were students from a psychology lab class, so this will be deemed as normal
reliability
*
sampling bias
*
ethnocentrism
*
not ethnocentric. this is because the study into context dependant memory is based on cognitive processes in the brain. a persons ability to remember things depend on them as an individual and not based on what country they live in or their cultural background
