Q

strength of research method

A

a strength of using a lab experiment is that it is easily replicated. this is because of the standardisation of the procedure. all children were taken individually to an anteroom and then were individually taken to a third room with aggressive and non-aggressive toys (boho doll, mallet and dart guns)

Q

strength of data collected

A

a strength of collecting quantitative data is it is easy to compare and analyse results. this is because the data is limited to short, numerical form so the researcher can easily see the differences in levels of transmission of aggression between the children observing the aggressive role model as opposed to the non-aggressive role model.

Q

weakness of data collected

A

a weakness of collecting quantitative data is it lacks depth and detail. this is because the data only contains numerical values which means the researcher cant focus on the feelings and emotions that the children felt whilst imitating either the aggressive role model or the non-aggressive role model.

a weakness of collecting qualitative data is it is hard to measure and analyse, meaning that the descriptions of the children’s action may have been hard to put into categories for comparisons so that the researcher can compare transmission of aggression between the children in the two conditions.

Q

ethical considerations

A

is unethical through the ethical guideline of the protection of ps. this is because the children watching the aggressive role model could be left with emotional distress - this aggressive behaviour being picked up wont just go away and could lead to future behavioural problems

Q

validity

A

high internal validity. this is because of the standardisation of the procedure and the high control of the variables. all the children were taken into a third room containing both aggressive and non-aggressive toys (bobo doll, mallet and dart gun) and were observed through a one way mirror for 20 minutes.

low ecological validity. this is because the study into transmission of aggression took place in an artificial environment and the children in the aggressive condition are hitting a bobo doll, meaning that it cant be related to hitting a real person as the bobo doll has no emotional or physical responses as opposed to a human.

Q

sampling bias

A

no sampling bias. this is because the sample consisted of equal numbers of boys and girls (36 of each) meaning that the results will be representative and the chances of gender differences can be avoided

is sampling bias. this is because all the children were picked from stanford university nursery school, meaning that the results cant be generalisable to the wider population of chldren that dont attend stanford nursery school

Q

ethnocentrism

A

is ethnocentric. this is because all children that took part where from white middle class families, meaning that people of different races and classes are being ignored - assumes that children of different races/classes will have the same level of transmission of aggression
