What is a personal pronoun?
I, me, you, he, him, she, her, it, we, us, they, them.
- Likely that personal pronouns are the ones you’ll want to comment on when analysing texts.
What is a Possessive Pronoun?
mine, yours, his, hers, its, ours, theirs. Shows ownership
What are Reflexive Pronouns?
myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, themselves.
- Used when person doing the verb action is same as person receiving.
What are Demonstrative Pronouns?
this, that, these, those
What are Indefinite Pronouns?
no one, nobody, everyone, everybody, neither, either, both, some, all, many, each, several, something, anything, anyone, everything.
What are Relative Pronouns?
who, whom, whose, which, that.
Follow noun they relate to and provide information about that noun.
- Example: ‘The storm that blew the tree down’, ‘The dog which ate the food’
What are Interrogative Pronouns?
who, whom, whose, which, what. Used to ask questions.
Define a Pronoun.
- A word which stands in place of a noun or noun phrase (usually to avoid repetition of the noun)
Define Subject + Object
- Subject- normally performs the action of the sentence or clause + can be a single word/phrase.
- Object- normally receives action + comes after verb
- Pronouns used as the subject of the sentence tend to come in front of the verb (e.g. Sally loves Alfie)
- Pronouns appearing as the object of the verb’s action tend to come after the verb (e.g. ‘She loves him’)
