grafts Flashcards
material obtain from a pt’s intact skin, cadaver(dead people), or animals to treat burns victims
biologic dressin
its the most desirable graft
A graft transferred from one part of a pt body to another (using your skin to help your wound on your body)
autograft
when autograft is no possible what’s another way to help with the wound using human skin
(sense they are the same species)
cadaver(dead people)
homograft and ALLOGRAFT
a graft of tissue from an individual of one species to an individual of a different species (pig skin to human skin)
xenograft
Substance created by chemical process
a term used for artificial skin that can be used as a temporary measure for grafting in burn victims
biosynthetic
autograft can be
full thickness or split thickness skin graft
split thickness means they ran it through a
meshing machine
Why is an escharotomy performed?
If eschar cannot be removed, tissue perfusion or respiration may be compromised because of circumferential eschar constriction; possible necrosis and nerve damage
micro organism grow here
removal of eschar and necrotic skin is usually done within
24 to 72 hours
if the pressure is not relieved what happens to the arterial blood flow
in extremity will be compromised causing necrosis and nerve damage
An escharotomy on the chest improves ?
lung expansion and O2
no anesthesia
What is compartment syndrome?
increased pressure within a compartment, such as arm or leg, causes compromised circulation
can be caused by edema from the burn
what should you monitor with compartment syndrome
increasing pain
paleness and
tenseness of the tissue
numbness
or tingling
discoloration
