Gr.10 T3 (Physics) Flashcards
What is acceleration?
The rate of change in velocity.
Are the following vectors or scalars:
- Acceleration
- Velocity
- Speed
- Magnitude of something
- Vector
- Vector
- Scalar
- Scalar
What is the formula of acceleration (in words)?
acceleration equals change in velocity divided by change in time
What is instantaneous velocity?
A velocity at a specific time. The displacement divided by an infinitesimal time value.
What is instantaneous speed?
Magnitude of the instantaneous velocity
What does the gradient represent in a position-time graph?
Velocity
What does a curved line represent in a position-time graph?
Acceleration
What does the gradient represent in a velocity-time graph?
Acceleration
What does the area underneath the line represent in a velocity-time graph?
Displacement
What does a horizontal line mean in
1) a position-time graph
2) a velocity-time graph
3) a acceleration-time graph
1) object not moving
2) constant velocity, no acceleration
3) constant acceleration (positive or negative, depending on whether above or below the x-axis)
What does the area beneath a line represent in an acceleration-time graph?
Average velocity
What does stopping distance consist of?
Thinking distance+braking distance
Note that doesn’t work for a key card…
When a question asks 1. The magnitude of... 2. How far... 3. How fast... The answer does not need a direction.
