Gr.10 T3 (2) Physics and Chemistry Flashcards
What are allotropes?
Forms part of the same element with different chemical and physical properties.
What are ionic substances?
Reaction between metal and non-metal.
What are salts?
Any ionic compounds
What is physical change?
A rearrangement of particles that does not alter the chemical nature of the substance.
What is chemical change?
A change where the chemical nature of the substance involved changes.
What is the law of conservation of mass?
In a chemical reaction, the sum of the mass of the reactants equals the sum of the mass of the products.
What is an exothermic reaction?
More energy is released when bonds are formed than what is needed to break original bonds.
What is an endothermic reaction?
More energy is absorbed to break bonds than what is formed to make new bonds.
What is mechanics?
The study of movement.
What is physical quantity?
Shows characteristics of an object. Can be measured.
What three things does a vector have?
Magnitude, direction and a unit.
What two things does a scalar have?
Magnitude and a unit.
What is a resultant vector?
A single vector that has the sum of two or more vectors that has the same effect as the combined individual vectors.
What is another name for the resultant vector?
A net vector
What is distance?
The length that you move away from your original position.
