What is an implied suspension?
A suspension that doesn’t resolve or resolves after a rest
What are the 3 common suspension?
4-3 9-8 7-6
What is a false/cross relation?
When a note is in close time proximity to a chromatically altered version of itself but played in another part
What structure do you often find in homophonic music?
Chords, broken arpeggios accompanying a simple melody harmonised in 3rds and 6ths
What structure do you often find in polyphonic music?
Less chords and melody drives the music, more contrapuntal with individual melody lines making up chords
What is a theme
main part of there music - the hook
What is a variation
an adaption of the main theme or hook
What is a reprise
The reuse of the hook at the end of a piece - usually altered in some way
what is an exposition and recapitulation
it is the beginning and end of a piece in sonata form both using the theme/hook
What is a coda
An end section used to finish a piece neatly or with a flourish

What is a chord likely to be if it feels like a random jumble of notes?
An extended dominant - check next chord and it should be tonic

Use the note furthest from the root
