what is the most appropriate treatment

need to know chadsvascscore for exam!!
you treat if score is at least 2 in men and at least 3 in women
65 YO is one point, 75 or over is 2 points
previous stroke, TIA or thromboembolism = 2 points
Vascular disease history (prior MI, peripheral artery disease, or aortic plaque) = 1 point
female = 1 point
52 year old afro carribbean man is reffered to the hypertension clinic with an average reading of 164/105
no other conditions
10 year cardiovascular risk = 23%
in addition to atorvastatin, what else do you prescribe?
usually under 55 will be offered an ACE
but patients who are afro carribbean, offer calcium channel blocker instead - amlodipine!!!
treatment for superficial thrombophlebitis without deep vein thrombosis!!
NSAIDs = 1st line!!!!
eg naproxen
antibiotics not indicated!!! unless signs of infection eg high fever
47 YO with HTN. takes ramipril.
BP = 138/78
elevated potassium!! - 6.3
urea and creatinine normal. first step in management?
Repeat U&Es!! and arrange ecg
if it was due to ramipril, you would expect changes to renal function as well eg urea and creatinine
