What is a Parliamentary System
A governing system which is composed of two legislative bodies(House of Commons and Senate) and operates according to customs established in Britain
What does legislative mean
to make laws
What does Democratic mean?
The government is controlled by the majority of people and is responsive to their opinions
What is a Representative
Individuals of varying political ideologies are elected to act on behalf of their constituents
What does Responsible mean in terms of the Government?
The executive branch of the government is accountable to the legislative branch and the government is accountable to the electorate
What does Federal mean?
the powers of government are shared between a central national government and local governments(provinces and municipalities)
What is a constitutional monarchy?
The british monarch is recognized as our head of state and her government operates under a fundamental system of written and unwritten principles
What is the Rule of Law?
the government is controlled by the law and is not above the law and must operate according to its terms
What is independence of the judiciary?
the courts operate without the interference or control of the government
