Gout, RA, Relaxers Flashcards
What is the first line of treatment for gout?
colchicine, endocin
What does allopurinol (zyloprim) do?
treats gout and decreases uric acid in blood
What doesprobenecid (benemid) do?
Inhibits uric acid reabsorption to treat gout
How can gout be prevented?
Avoid foods high in purine like organ meat, salmon, sardines, ASA
What is rheumatoid arthritis?
a chronic, systemic autoimmune disease with inflammation of connective tissues in joints.
What is RA treated with?
Nsaids, glucocorticoids, DMARDs
What are DMARDS?
Disease modifying anti rheumatic drugs; 3 groups- major nonbiologic, major biologic, minor
What are types of drugs for anesthesia?
Inhaled general agents, induction general agents, sedatives, hyponotics, narcotics, neuromuscular blocking agents
How do inhaled anesthetic agents work?
Drug enters and exits through lungs via mask or endotracheal tube. Agents are transfered via lungs.
What are some types of inhaled anesthetic agents?
Compressed gas, volatile liquid agents
How to muscle relaxants work and what are the 2 types?
They work on the striated muscles by interfering with acetylcholine binding at the motor end plate where nerve fibers connect with muscles. Types= depolarizing (cant be reversed) and nondepolarizing
What are the functions of muscle relaxants?
Provide muscle relaxation during surgery and allows an endotracheal tube to pass
What are benzodiazipines?
Sedatives with hypnotic effect and a generalized CNS depressant. They potentiate GABA ex: valium, ativan
