- a form of microcrystal synovitis

What is the main cause of Gout?
A
Hyperuricaemia

RF : factors decreasing excretion of uric acid?
A
- drugs - diuretics
- CKD
- Diabetic ketoacidosis

RF : factors increasing uric acid production?
A
- High alcohol consumption and obesity
- Psoriasis
- Increased cell turnover - myeloprolif disorders / haemolytic anaemia

3 major symptoms of ‘acute gout’?
A
- Pain
- Swelling
- Erythema
70% of cases - big toe is affected

Complications of gout
A
- Repeated acute attacks can cause chronic joint problems
