A
punched out periarticular erosion with sclerotic overhanging borders

What is the treatment for gout?
A
Acute: indomethacin 50mg tid and/or colchicine, steroids
Chronic: allopurinol and colchicine

What is gout?
A
Primary gout- idiopathic disorder of nucleic acid metabolism that leads to hyperuricemia and deposition of monosodium urate crystals in joints (a purine breakdown product).
Secondary gout- associated with a disease with high metabolic turnover (psoriasis, hemolytic anemia, leukemia, chemotherapy)
