Good Laboratory Practice Flashcards
What are the objectives of GLP?
To make sure that the results presented are a true reflection of the data that are obtained during the study
The results should be traceable
GLP also promotes international acceptance of tests
What is Good laboratory practice (GLP)?
A set of principles that provide a framework within which laboratory studies are planned, scheduled, performed, monitored, reported and fully archived
What are standard operating procedures (SOP)?
Are written procedures for a laboratory programme, they define how to carry out protocol-specified activities
What does SOP contain?
Routine inspection, cleaning, maintenance, testing and calibration
Actions to be taken in response to equipment failure
Analytical methods
Keeping accurate records of raw data
Keeping records, reporting, storage, mixing and retrieval data
Why is statistical analysis performed?
In order to obtain results that are statistically significant
Differences reported as significant must be statistically validated
What are ELISA used for?
Quantification of growth factors, detection of DNA-binding activity of transcription factors and for development of biosensors
What does data analysis include?
Careful assessment of the results Calculations Or Image analysis Statistical analysis
What are the crucial temperatures reagents might need to be stored at?
Room temperature or at 2-8oC or at -20oC.(fridge-freezer)
Some reagents/biological samples need to be stored at -80oC( freezer)or even -196oC liquid nitrogen
What is centrifugation needed for?
Involves the use of the centrifugal (gravitation) force for the sedimentation of heterogenous mixtures with a centrifuge, used in industry and in laboratory settings
What are vital rules for use of a centrifuge?
Tubes must be placed exactly opposite to each other
Only even number of the tubes could be subjected to centrifugation and the tubes placed opposite to each other need to have equal weight
What is a laminar box used for?
To keep conditions sterile for tissue culture or genetic materials
What do spectrophotometer allow?
Detection of light absorbance at specific wavelength
What is the maximum of absorbance?
The wavelength at which the compound/complex absorbs maximum of the light
