Q

Explain the Locke and Latham’s goal setting theory

A

Clarity: goals need to be straightforward, clear and obvious, even to outsiders

Goals should provide a challenge: easy goals don’t provide enough motivation to work hard.

Goals should have a commitment: you and anyone else involved in achieving the goal needs to believe it is important

Need to have feedback: you need to be able to assess your progress along your way, get and give feedback, and change course if you need to

Task complexity: goals that are too complex are hard to achieve because there is too much to focus on at one time. Goals should be manageable.

A

Specific: the goal must state exactly what you will accomplish

Measurable: your progress must be trackable and you must know when you will achieve it.

Attainable/achievable: your goal must be something that you can actually achieve

Relevant: your goal should line up with your values, interest, and other goals.

Time-bound/timely: your goal should have fair but firm deadlines
