what is the rose used for as an image?

A

The personification of the rose allows the speaker to convince a woman through the rose.
Using apostrophe and personfying the rose from the beginning makes the speaker reveal that:
1) he intends to send to woman he loves
2) Progress of the stanza shows that the rose is a visual metaphor for the women and her beauty.

“tell her that wastes her time”
“how sweet and fair she seems to be”
