Glycolysis Flashcards
1
Q
Glycolysis
A
Breaks down glucose in cytoplasm, is anaerobic
2
Q
Process
A
Glucose is first activated by the phosphorylation by two ATPs, resulting in diphosphate, which splits into two G3Ps. Each G3P gets oxidized by NAD+ (produces 2 NADH) and each is phosphorylated by one Pi. Then substrate-level phosphorylation occurs twice per molecule, producing 4 ATPs (net 2 ATP), and a final product of 2 pyruvates.
