Glycogen Flashcards
Two functions of debranching enzyme
Transferase and alpha 1,6-glucosidase
What three things increase phosphorylation of glycogen phosphorylase?
PKA, DAG/IP3, and Ca2+
What form of glycogen phosphorylase is active?
The phosphorylated form
What is the function of phosphoprotein phosphatase in the glycogen pathway?
Removes the phosphate from glycogen phosphorylase, inactivating it
What does glycogen phosphorylase do?
Breaks down glycogen into glucose 1 phosphate
What does AMP do in the glycogen pathway?
Allosterically activates the inactivated form of glycogen phosphorylase
How does calcium activate glycogen phosphorylase?
It binds to calmodulin, a subunit of the enzyme
What form of glycogen synthase is active?
The unphosphorylated form
What can allosterically activate glycogen synthase?
Glucose 6-phosphate
What two things in glycolysis does glucagon inhibit?
Pyruvate kinase directly and PFK-1 through inhibition of PFK-2 (inhibition of these promotes gluconeogenesis)
What in glycogen pathway does glucagon inhibit?
Glycogenesis by inhibition of glycogen synthase
