Gluteal region Flashcards
Gluteus maximus
Attachments: posterior ilium, dorsal sacrum/coccyx, sacrotuberous ligament to IT band OR gluteal tuberosity of femur
Innervation: inferior gluteal nerve
Actions: extends flexed hip, assists with ER of hip, hip abduction
Gluteus medius
Attachments: lateral ilium to lateral greater trochanter
Innervation: superior gluteal nerve
Actions: abducts hip, IR hip, stabilizes pelvis on stance leg when opposite leg is raised
Gluteus minimus
Attachments: lateral ilium to anterior greater trochanter
Innervation: superior gluteal nerve
Actions: abducts hip, IR hip
Inferior gemellus
Attachments: ischial tuberosity to medial greater trochanter
Innervation: nerve to quadratus femoris
Actions: ER extended hip
Obturator internus
Attachments: pelvic surface of obturator membrane to medial greater trochanter
Innervation: nerve to obturator internus
Actions: ER extended hip, abducts flexed hip
Piriformis
Attachments: anterior sacral segments 2-4, sacrotuberous ligament to superior greater trochanter
Innervation: ventral rami of L5, S1, S2
Actions: ER extended thigh, abducts flexed hip
Quadratus femoris
Attachments: lateral ischial tuberosity to quadrate tubercle on intertrochanteric crest of femur
Innervation: nerve to quadratus femoris
Actions: ER hip
Superior gemellus
Attachments: ischial spine to medial greater trochanter
Innervation: nerve to obturator internus
Action: ER extended hip
Tensor fasciae latae
Attachments: ASIS and anterior iliac crest to IT band
Innervation: superior gluteal nerve
Action: abducts hip, IR hip, flexes hip
