Gluconeogenesis Flashcards
Where can Gluconeogenesis occur?
Only in liver cells, not muscle cells.
When does GNG occur?
During fasting and starvation.
Why is GNG important?
Maintenance of blood glucose.
When does GNG become the primary source of glucose?
8 hours into the post absorptive state.
is GNG exo or endergonic?
Endergonic. Requires a source of energy.
Where does the energy for GNG come from?
Metabolism of Fatty Acids.
Where do the sources of Carbons come from?
- Glucogenic A.A
- Pyruvate (/Lactate)
- Glycerol (from TAG)
Can all cells use FA’s?
No.
Can all cells use Glucose?
Yes.
What are examples of precursors for GNG?
Amino acids and CAC intermediates.
Where in the CAC do the Carbon Skeletons of Amino acids have to feed in to be precursors for GNG?
Before Oxaloacetate.
What is a source for amino acids in muscles?
Protein.
What is the only pathway in the body that uses Lactate?
GNG.
Which 3 enzymes in glycolysis do not catalyse the reverse reaction?
- Hexokinase
- Phospho-fructokinase-1
- Pyruvate Kinase
