glucogensis Flashcards
why is the phosphorylation of pyruvate coupled with the carboxylation (oxalate) and decarboxylation to from phosphoenol pyruvate
this is because the direct phos of pyruvate is highly un favorable due to a very pos DG. coupling this rxn allows for a much smaller pos DG to be adopted by the pathway, where a single mole of ATP can be used to complete the rxn.
decarboxylation drives rxns forward that would otherwise be endergonic
is glucogen a favourable pathway
no. it must be coupled with other rxn/enzymes to make it energetically favourable
what is the DG of glycoiliss? gluco?
gly= -38kJ/mol
Glu= +22kJ/mol
what controls the rate of gluco
the concnetration of lactate and other precourses of glycolysis. these being to increase when glucose is scarce and the body still needs energy.
