It was created by London hat-makers Thomas and William Bowler in 1849 and was popular among the British, Irish, and American working class due to its protective and durable style. It was worn by many celebrities, as well as fictional characters, such as a famous actor Charlie Chaplin and a protagonist of the movie A Clockwork Orange, Alex DeLarge.
