Q

Shoulder

A

An area adjacent to the edge of a pavement so prepared as to provide transition between the pavement and adjacent surfaces.

RWY shoulders should be provided for RWYs less than 60m wide.

RWY shoulders mitigate hazards to ACFT running off the RWY or avoid ingestion of loose stones or other objects by turbine engines.
