glomerular disease Flashcards
nephritic syndrome
glomerular inflammation that causes glomerular haematuria (with red cell casts or acanthocytes), sterile pyuria, and proteinuria <3.5g/day
and oliguria
systemic symptoms of nephritic syndrome
hypertension, oliguria, fluid retention with peripheral oedema
clinical features of nephritic syndrome
intermittant gross haematuria
red or brown urine, cola coloured urine
hypertension
pitting edema
in decreased GFR, oliguria and uremic symptoms
fatigue
nephrotic syndrome indicates
damage to the glomerular filtration barrier
nephrotic syndrome is characterised by
hypoalbuminaemia
massive protenuria >3.5g/24 hours
edema
nephrotic syndrome in children is usually caaused by
minimal change disease
typical laboratory findings of nephrotic syndrome
hyperlipidaemia
fatty casts on urinalysis
clinical features of nephrotic syndrome
massive proteinuria
edema - typiclly starting with periorbital edema
peripheral edema and pleural effusion/pericardial effusion
ascites
hypoalbuminemia
hyperlipidemia
fatty casts in urine and frothy urine
hypercoagulability
