Globalisation in the digital and social world Flashcards

Q
What did Giddens, Dunier and Applebaun say about globalisation ?
A
- If human history was a 24 hour day, not much would happen in the first 23 hours
- More change in society would happen in the last 30 seconds
- This shows that globalisation has accelerated the speed that change is happening

Q
Wiseman
A
- The term globalisation can be misused and misunderstood

4
Q
Problems with defining globalisation:
A
- There are some positive opinions about the effect of globalisation but there are also negative ones.
- This means that attempting to define globalisation is difficult because a lot of the views contain bias
- For example, Cochrane and Pain believe that globalisation is happening at the same rate everywhere
- Whereas Giddens only looks into a specific area of increased interconnections
