Glands Flashcards
What is a simple gland?
The duct of a simple gland does not branch.
Where can we simple tubular glands?
Mucous glands of the colon
Cardial glands of the stomach
Intestinal gland (crypts of Lieberkühn)
Where can we find simple branched tubular glands?
Glands of the stomach(Fundic and pyloric) and uterus
What is an example of simple coiled tubular gland?
Sweat gland
Where can we find simple acinar/alveolar glands?
Urethra
What is an example of simple branched acinar/alveolar gland?
Sebaceous Gland
What is a compound gland?
The ducts are branched in a compound gland.
What is an example of a compound tubular gland?
Brunner’s Gland in the duodenum
What is an example of compound acinar gland?
Exocrine pancreas
What is an example of compound tubuloacinar gland?
Salivary gland
What is a merocrine gland?
Secretion of proteins by exocytosis at the apical end of the secretory cells. No cytoplasm is lost.
Give example/s of a merocrine gland?
Salivary glands
Intestinal glands
Lacrimal glands
What is a holocrine gland?
Secretion in this gland is produced by the disintegration of the secretory cells themselves as they complete their terminal differentiation, which involves becoming filled with product.
Give example/s of a holocrine gland
Sebaceous Gland
What is an apocrine gland?
Only the apical part of the cytoplasm is lost with secretion.
