What is Gallbladder?
It is a sac attached to the liver on the visceral surface of the liver on the right side of the quadrate lobe.
What are the functions of the gallbladder?
Concentration and storage of bile. 50 ml is the maximum storage capacity of the gallbladder
What type of epithelium is present in gallbladder?
Simple columnar epithelium
There are Na/K pumps on the basolateral side of the cells
What are the characteristics of the lamina propria?
Loose connective tissue with capillaries, lymphatics, collagen, and elastic fibers, plasma cells.
No glands except in the neck, there are simple tubuloacinar glands that produce mucus
What are the layers of the gallbladder?
Mucosa, muscularis, and adventitia/serosa
What is in the muscularis?
Smooth muscle fibers, elastic, and collagen fibers.
