Glaciation SG2b Flashcards
What are the 6 depositional landforms?
Drumlin Till sheet Erratic Terminal Moraine Lateral Moraine Recessional Moraine
What are the two end moraines?
Terminal and Recessional moraien
How does a terminal moraine form?
Till carried within the glacial as subglacial englacial supraglacial material will be deposited at the snout of glacier as the glacier melts in the shape of a crescent
As more and more builds up a moraine is built up
What are the three most important geomorphic processes in the formation of a lateral moraine?
Freeze thaw weathering for the till
Mass movement to move the till down the valley
Deposition to deposit at the sides of the glacier
Which is the steep side to a drumlin?
Stoss
Which the gentle side to the drumlin?
Lee side
What is an erratic?
A stone with a different geology to the parent rock it sits on
Transported with glacier and deposited
