Gingivectomy/Plasty Flashcards
We only do perio surgery to treat gingival overgrowth that’s caused by:
Inflammation or
Drugs
Flaps heal by what intention?
Gingivectomies heal by what intention?
Primary
Secondary
Healing is better with this intention.
Primary
Cause ginginval enlargements.
- Anticonvulsants (Dilantin)
- Immunosuppressants (Cyclosporine)
- Calcium Channel Blockers (Nifedipine)
Prograf
Immunosuppressant
Conditions and Systemic diseases that cause gingival enlargement.
- Leukemia
- Granulomatous diseases (Wegener’s, sarcoidosis).
- Pregnancy
- Puberty
- Vit C deficiency
- Plasma cell gingivitis (allergy)
We do perio surgery for these types of gingival overgrowth.
1) Inflammation
2) Drug-induced (Ca channel blockers, etc)
Vit C deficiency is AKA what?
scorbutic gingivitis
Mouth breathing causes this.
Gingivitis (mostly restricted to the maxillary incisors).
This triggers the gingival overgrowth in people taking Dilantin.
Plaque
Gingivitis that’s typically seen in patients that have a drug allergy.
Plasma cell
Procedure to recontour the gingival surface.
Gingivoplasty
Junctl epithelia is coronal to the alveolar crest.
Suprabony pocket
Junctl epithelia is apical to the alveolar crest.
Infrabony pocket.
Removes sulcular and JE.
