Gestalt principle definition
Help to interpret visual information more efficiently by grouping individual elements together to perceive a whole object
Figure-ground
Tendency to perceive part of a visual stimuli as more relevant as something standing out against a background
- can help to make features standout/camouflage
-Figure is perceived as more relevant
Closure
Ability to fill gaps in visual stimuli & perceive it as a meaningful whole
-Helps to complete incomplete stimuli
- Potentially reduce mental effort requirement
Similarity
Tend to group together stimuli as a whole stimuli that are alike in color or shape
Proximity
Tendency to perceive parts of a visual stimuli that are closer together as belonging as a group
