What is a Gerund?
An active, verbal noun used in the neuter singular only.
What cases does a Gerund have?
(The present active infinitive takes the place of the missing nominative.) genitive dative accusative ablative
What is a Gerundive?
A verbal adjective used in the singular and plural in all genders and cases.
How are Gerunds and Gerundives formed?
Take the present stem and add either “-ndus, -nda, -ndum” or “endus, -enda, -endum” depending on the conjugation.
If there is NO direct object, what should be used?
Latin Gerund
If there is an English direct object, what should be used?
Latin Gerundive
What is the irregularity for Latin Intransitives used with the Dative?
They have the Gerund and keep the Dative.
When is the Genitive of the Gerund/Gerundive used?
- With nouns and adjectives.
