Weimar was based on equality in priniciple

1988- law passed to provide cheap housing for migrants
Bad: 1966 economic recession meant 30% decline in foreign workers
1973 Oil Crisis meant ban on further labour recruitment from abroad

Similarities: Church not involved in education Tried to break down class divides Broke down hierarchy
Differences: Free education for all was provided up to 18 yrs in FRG. Allowed more working class students access to university from 1970s onward Schools and unis became more democratic in structure and curriculum

Similarities: Decline in the influence of the church
Access to top gymnasium and universities was mostly restricted to the elites until 1970s
Differences: Enrollment into uni grew in the 1970s
More academically focused in FRG
Nazi belived in different gender roles with different schools, whereas FRG focused on gender equality and number of girls in higher education rose
Allies denazification 1945-49
Law No. 1 ended centralisation and control of cultural life given to the Lander govts
Former nazis were screened and some dismissed
Nazi literature was purged
Freedom of press established
Foreign culture grew
Rise in social movements like anti nukes and rejection of consumerism

Traditional German culture remained popular to some
Always generational and geographical differences. Berlin was more radical whilst rural communities were more conservative. older gens were traditional
Culture remained a force for division whilst also bringing cohesion and unity
Changes in culture in FRG
Denazification led to promotion of foreign lifestyles and ideas. Reduced traditional German culture
Generational tensions increased partly due to spread of radical left wing movements among the youth
Class differences were eroded due to higher living standards
More diverse culture due to immigration and removal of central government control
